Virtual Reality To the Rescue

We’ve made it out of 2020… and everything is still a bit askew. Who could ever imagine that our longest walks are now from the bedroom to the sofa and back? Lots of us are working from home or sheltering in place. Through all of this there is an even bigger need to connect. It’s virtual communication to the rescue.

We’re resilient… we’ve found a way for life to go on. Now the question is, how do we dress for those virtual meetings and happy hours? One thing for sure, whenever we have a camera pointed in our direction, we want to look our best.

 GET READY!

There is no universal look when it comes to how to style for your virtual meetings. Corporate meetings require one look, while your virtual book club with friends is another entirely. To complicate things… you sometimes have to be ready for one right after the other. Don’t stress! Here are our suggestions for a few effortless looks ready to go, no matter the occasion.

 POLISHED TO PERFECTION

If you work in the corporate world, you should always have a nice blazer or two on hand. A great blazer can polish and freshen up your look in an instant, even if you toss it over a simple tank or tee. Add a necklace and earrings and you have a perfectly finished look. Our go-to is Marc Cain’s Essential Stretch Cotton Blazer, or their Mesh Blazer. Both tailored jackets are made in an unexpected fabric- soft, stretchy, and comfy- and yes, they also look amazing. Wear them over a fresh pop of color from an essential tank from A’nue. If you feel like having a bit more fun, go with a boldly printed top from Marc Cain. Add a bright and bold necklace and earrings and you have a polished look in seconds. We love Simon Sebbag‘s handmade, electroplated stering silver jewelry…it’s so lightweight, you’ll hardly know you are wearing it.

In need of business casual style? We love a great sweater. Try one of our favorites from Poles, with an easy fit and a fabulous drape. The supple fabrics, in a range of natural fibers, are top quality… and the colors are always rich and elegant. To change up your look, pair with the fun abstract prints of a silk and cashmere scarf from Kinross. Add simple Anne-Marie Chagnon earrings and you are all set. Or wear with one of her long pendants for a bold pop of color. We also love Yoshi Yoshi tops. They hit the jackpot for style, fit, and comfort. Each one of these handmade beauties is a bit different- a peek into their individually handmade nature. Add the mixed metals of an Apunto necklace and earrings for a look of perfection.

Never underestimate the power of a vest. Consider the soft knit piece from J’envie, a perennial favorite. Worn over a simple tee or sweater, what could be easier? A vest is a great way to look polished in lieu of a jacket. For a little oomph, elevate your look with a pop of color. The handmade Zsiska long pendant is a modern attention grabber, in a range of bright and beautiful colors to make any outfit complete.

 SOFT AND EASY

Virtual Happy Hour, Book Club, or just staying in touch with family and friends? You probably want a more relaxed look. We always love Elliott Lauren’s beautiful, soft sweaters. After trying one, clients always come back to buy every fabulous color we carry. Flattering for every figure, and always a say yes piece, with classic silhouettes that feature just a hint of modern styling for a fresh and effortless look. Be prepared… you will want to grab several. Add a simple pendant and matching earrings. We always hand select modern pieces that make a statement- whether you want something more bold or more subdued. A great jewelry set is the simplest way to look and feel your best.

Even though lots of people are dressing from the waist up during these “Virtual Times”, clothes are about how you feel, too. You are sure to feel more prepared and empowered if you are wearing a nice pair of easy, comfortable and casual pants. So, consider wearing a comfy pair from Elliott Lauren or Bitte Kai Rand. Their pull-on styling, soft and stretchy fabrics, and clean lines are matched with versatile colors and prints for an easy addition to your closet. You’ll be prepared to tackle anything and feel great doing it.

Be sure to keep a few looks on hand so you can be ready in an instant. Remember to keep your background simple, use frontal lighting and a straight on eye level camera angle. Also, Zoom has an Instant Touch-Up Effect that you can just click on (we all use and love it!). Since you won’t be wearing your mask, a great lipstick goes a long way to brighten up your look. How about Marilyn Monroe’s go-to color? Max Factor’s Colour Elixer Lipstick 715 Ruby Tuesday. For a more natural and casual look, try Clinque’s number one selling lip color, Black Honey Almost Lipstick. Both of these lipsticks work on every skin tone…. What’s not to love?

Follow our tips, wait for the compliments to come in… and have fun!
